Maple Leaf - July 11, 2010

Joe Krown

Kevin O'Day will fill in for long time friend Russell Batiste with the Joe Krown trio at the Maple Leaf for their famous Sunday night crawfish boil.  Starting at 9 pm, the Sunday night show has been a mainstay of the Leaf's weekly lineup for almost 3 years now.  Kevin has played with the Trio many times in the past, covering for Russell when things come up, sometimes a gig with the Funky Meters, sometimes Russell's own show.  Of course on guitar and vocals is the inimitable Walter "Wolfman" Washington, doing tunes such as his arrangement of Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On", and the ever popular "Talk to Me", along with Wolf's theme, "You Can Stay, but the Noise Must Go".  O'Day says he is excited to play with the trio because it has been over a year since he has played a full show with their band.  He says: "Joe and Walter are such incredible musicians, and it is an honor and a privilege to be chosen to fill in for Russell...I can't wait to do this gig!"
